What broker besides IB allows you to convert currency via Forex and instantly avoiding losing money on conversion?

IB has this great feature where you can convert your accounts currency via forex, if you have GBP and USD accounts and want to day trade on multiple markets same day. Also it is instant as you pretty much use forex to fill your order.
As an example broker like Saxo, it charges you 1% every time you try to convert internally to different currency and it may take up to 1 day, aka not instantly.
Is there any other broker like IB for uk investors?

Best cards/bank accounts/practices for traveling? Things like: no forex-txn fees, no ATM fees, should you convert CAD directly to local currency or should you take USD?

For anyone who travels outside of North American often, do you have any recommendations for how to handle getting money in foreign countries?

Globe: Algonquin Power & Utilities receives big boost to five-year growth plan

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-algonquin-power-utilities-receives-big-boost-to-five-year-growth/
Canadian utilities with ambitious growth plans have found a new best friend in Zimmer Partners LP, a U.S. hedge fund that is paving the way for new infrastructure by making serious commitments to stock sales.
Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. is the latest domestic player to benefit from founder Stuart Zimmer’s seal of approval. Back in December, the Oakville, Ont.-based company announced a five-year expansion strategy that called for $9.2-billion in spending on projects that include 10 wind and solar facilities in Quebec, Saskatchewan and eight U.S. states. Analysts calculated Algonquin needed to raise $350-million from stock sales each year to achieve its goals, an appetite for capital that didn’t go away when the world caught the novel coronavirus.
Enter Mr. Zimmer and his US$9-billion fund, which focuses on investments in energy and utility stocks. In early July, Algonquin landed a $350-million order for its shares from what it described in a press release and filings as a single U.S. institutional investor. Investment bankers working on the transaction confirm the investor was Zimmer Partners; the company and the hedge fund declined to comment. (The Globe and Mail is not identifying the investment bankers as they were not authorized to speak publicly about the deal.) Over three decades of investing in utilities, Mr. Zimmer has earned a reputation as a committed and supportive shareholder.
With a large initial order in hand, a team of dealers led by Scotia Capital and CIBC Capital Markets offered an additional $550-million of Algonquin stock to the public. This portion of the bought deal was subsequently boosted to $633-million, on the back of strong demand from individual investors, meaning Algonquin raised a total of $983-million. The company funded roughly three years of its five-year growth plan in one transaction.
The deal marked a dramatic debut for new chief executive Arun Banskota, who joined Algonquin as president in February from a U.S. power company and took over as chief executive from founder Ian Robertson in mid-July. In a press release, Mr. Banskota said the stock sale covers all of this year’s spending plans and “puts the company in a position of strength as it looks to soon begin executing on the 2021 portion of its capital program.”
The size of the transaction did not go unnoticed on the Street. “Although we were not surprised by the company raising equity at this time, we were not expecting an equity offering of this magnitude,” Nelson Ng, an analyst at RBC Dominion Securities, said in a report.
Analysts expressed much the same sentiment back in December, when Fortis Inc. sold $500-million of stock to Zimmer Partners as part of a $1.2-billion share sale, raising cash needed for the Newfoundland-based company’s planned $18.3-billion of projects over the next five years.
Zimmer Partners isn’t the only major institution willing to back Canadian infrastructure plays with big dreams. Brookfield Asset Management Inc. recently bought $350-million of preferred shares from Superior Plus Corp., money the propane distributor plans to spend on acquisitions. And a number of pension plans, including the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, Alberta Investment Management Corp. and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, have made significant investments in publicly traded utilities.
Why are Zimmer Partners and other institutions willing to step up? On the surface, Zimmer Partners and public investors paid the same amount for Algonquin stock, buying shares for $17.10 each – the stock was trading at $17.52 prior to announcement of the deal, so all the buyers were getting new shares at a slight discount. Regulatory filings also show Algonquin’s institutional investor agreed to hold its stock for at least 45 days, precluding flipping the stock for a quick profit.
However, regulatory filings show Algonquin paid the hedge fund what’s known as a “commitment fee” equal to 2 per cent of the value of the shares it bought, or $7.2-million. Fortis paid a 1-per-cent commitment fee, or $5-million, when it sold shares to Zimmer last year. That small fee is effectively a discount for the institution – similar to buying shares for well below where they are trading – which helps these investors beat their performance benchmarks.
From Algonquin’s point of view, the commitment fee is well worth paying, as it is only half the 4-per-cent commission charged by dealers on the bought deal portion of the offering. And it allows an ambitious Canadian utility with a newly minted CEO to plan for growth during a pandemic with almost a billion bucks in the bank.

Expat concerned about the US Dollar losing value

Here in Europe, I've been keeping an eye on the USD--the currency that most of my money is in. The USD has been in a steady decline since the pandemic started, and more recently has lost nearly 10% of its value when compared to the Euro since May. The last time it was this low was in June of 2018.
Has anyone else considered transferring all or most of their money from USD to Euro?
What are the odds of a USD collapse? I'm afraid that by keeping my savings in USD that I could really be screwing myself over if it continues on this trend. We are using our savings too live on while we are in school and, if the USD tanks, we will have no way to survive here in Europe.
Thoughts and advice?

Needless to say he blocked me straight away after I called him a disgraceful sc*m but hey..... I still called the corresponding banks, the UK Fraud Action and the FBI just to make sure and shared all of the details without any editting :)
Have fun "mate"! If they can freeze only 1 $ and return it to a likely victim, I am more then happy

Funding transferwise thru Peso Debit Mastercard

Hi there, just want to pool some reviews if anyone had an experience with this?
I verified my USD wallet (Multi-currency account) thru my payroll debit card - SecB for $20.
I got credited 979.48 pesos which is surprisingly low, not that I'm mad about it. just curious because people here attest to having as high as 8% of total fees for the conversion cost?
It also boggles me because SecB's USD selling rate today was 49.15 but mine was converted at 48.97.
Can anyone share their experience below as well? TIA!
Edit: Figured out using a mastercard currency converter that SecB didn't impose any bank fees for the forex conversion, what a time to be alive! https://imgur.com/ouItyMT https://imgur.com/DZznMip

Issue Investing in international etfs with IBKR

Hi all, first post here. It’s my first time trying to invest into some funds.
I was trying to buy a position in etf ISWD on my interactive brokers account; I selected how much I wanted but the order wouldn’t go through. I’m assuming it’s because the etf is in GBP and my account is in AUD. Does anyone know if I need to/ how to convert my deposit to GBP?
Another concern I had was the volume of this specific etf. How do I know if the fund is liquid enough? The daily volume was at nil and average daily volume at 5k??? Is that relevant?
Any suggestions for lower cost sharia-compliant index funds/ ETF’s would be much appreciated too!
Thanks heaps 🙌
Edit: interesting article I came across that talks about some of the misconceptions towards liquidity of ETF's https://am.jpmorgan.com/blob-gim/1383272223898/83456/1323416812894_Debunking-myths-about-ETF-liquidity.pdf

Most economical way of paying off student loan from overseas.

I searched through this subreddit and was surprised to see this hasn't been discussed at much length (or I am bad at searching).
I am living overseas in Canada and am being charged 3.5% interest on my student loan balance so I'd like to now start paying it off ASAP.
From what I can see there are a number of possible methods for paying off a student loan from overseas:
I put together a quick table summarizing my options, calculated at 07:00 EDT - 9/8/20. Some things to note:
Method Fee Send Amount (CAD) Recieve Amount (NZD) Notes
TransferWise $8.79 $891.60 $1,000.00
Western Union $0.00 $908.30 $1,000.00
Orbit Remit $0.00 --- --- CAD Not Available
XE $0.00 ? $1,000.00 Website Down
OFX $0.00 $887.67 $1,000.00
Credit Card $0.00 $896.33 $1,000.00
Credit Card $12.72 $909.05 $1,000.00 IRD Convenience fee included (1.42%)
Direct Debit $0.00 $904.10 $1,000.00
I have a few questions:
Thanks!

So finally I did not send him payment proof,I sent him a spoofed link to fetch his IP with a link to "payment proof" and got his IP and location (cant showr a real link bc it has my IP in it...) And was like " oh hey how is the whether in Irele, Nigeria??"
Cheers dont get scammed! Have a wonderful day!
TL/DR: Scammed a Nigerian scammer into sending me real accounts, names and details in UK and US (mules) to forward to the police and may or may not have donated 500 to charity.

TransferWise for foreign currency management

Has anyone here used Transferwise (https://transferwise.com/) to deal with foreign currencies? I'm living in the US but frequently get wire transfers in Euros and my bank (BoA) is devouring a huge chunk off the top. My most recent transfer (received payment) was about 10k euros on 8/31 and I lost like $500 of it because it's being converted at like 1.12 when really the euusd rate hasn't been below 1.17 since early august. I called BoA to ask why this discrepancy exists and they said it's due to the rate that the sending bank gives them, which I understand, but that means I have to contact the foreign bank and deal with them which is just annoying and I know they won't change it anyway. I checked on the sending bank's site and it seems they are sending at a rate of about 1.1533 which is closer to the real rate but still about $200 lower than it should be. Looking at Transferwise it seems to imply I can create an account and for a small conversion fee, get much closer to the real forex rate which would mean an extra $300-500/month depending on the size of the payment.
Has anyone used this and if it's not a good solution, how can I keep more of my money? Both sides (receiving and sending) are being shifted significantly from the actual market exchange rate (right now for example the BOA side is converting at 1.1214 for EUR -> USD and costs 1.2449 to go from USD -> EUR...The foreign sign is like 1.15 to go EUR->USD and 1.20 going the other way. Closer, but still not good. The current market rate is actually 1.1856 as we speak).

How to calculate your ROI on a foreign dividend stock?

Hi there,
Just to start on the same basis, I calculate my ROI (%) on domestic stocks as follows: (P&L - fees + Dividends received)/Initial Investment
However, when it comes to foreign stocks that gave me dividends I just can't find the right way to calculate the ROI in my base currency (BC).
If I use the same calculation but with everything in the specific quote currency (QC), I get the ROI in that QC.
Now, how to convert it to the ROI in my BC? Everything I've tried feels wrong with the forex change...
Thanks in advance !

Extons || Let's get familiar with its tools and features
crypto is well known for its volatility and unpredictable nature. Many projects show good improvement when they first launched but at the end of the campaign, they failed to deliver a promising product to its community. This is a crypto and it gave us a lot of good and useful projects.
Binance doesn't become binance in one day. It takes time to build up a quality exchnage. Though crypto is a very unpredictable sector of finance still there are some qualities that we can judge to know about the project merits. Today I am going to talk about an upcoming exchange that offers so much good tools and service. The name of that exchange is Extons.
For those who are already with me for quite a few days, you all must have known about my previous article about Extons. Today I am going to talk about its service, tools, and potential in the market. Then let's jump into it.

latest exchange rate dollar to rupee.

https://currencyconverterlive.com
Currency conversion calculators are calculated using current market rates. Unlike any calculator, this type of calculator needs to be updated regularly. The currency conversion calculator contains most of the time between 80 and 85 currencies, showing conversions in those currencies.

This type of calculator is a useful tool if you want to buy goods or services in foreign currency. This calculator will tell you how much you pay in currency. Many online merchants who have their own website add online currency converters, especially if they trade internationally. Of course, a currency conversion calculator will help a person to make transactions in more than one currency.

Most transformers are designed differently. Some performance results, others appear different in the sample table. However, the logic is similar and means that a person is shown an amount equal to the second currency. These calculators allow you to enter an amount that indicates the currency, and it will ask you to select the currency you want to compare. There is usually a button labeled "Convert" or "Calculate" or something like this effect, you can click on it to get the value.

This is not difficult to achieve. All you have to do is connect to the internet and use the search engine tools. Then you can simply enter the keyword "currency converter calculator" and there is a wide selection from which you can choose. There are some built-in programs on the same site, some of which can be downloaded to your computer. However, if it is a program that should be downloaded to your computer, you should have access to the Internet to regularly update prices. The currency converter calculator has tools that you can download from the Internet and update. If you like to use your mobile phone, you can have fun and easily download and install the currency conversion calculator application. If you are familiar with MS Excel and want to customize the converter, you can create a calculator from it. There are online lessons and step by step instructions on how to set up.

These things make things easier for everyone. You do not need to visit the Forex trading site or sites that have current market price tables to clear the required currencies. With a currency converter, all you have to do is enter the amount, select the currency you want to compare, and click on the account. The cash equivalent will show you the amount you entered from the first currency to the second, and at the same time give you details of the amount equal to the unit of each currency.

Is Norbert's Gambit not worth it for small amounts? + a question on having separate usd and cad trading accounts

Update: this will vary day to day but Norbert's Gambit looks worth it for values above $1700. Forex will probably be greater than $20. Below that, forex might be <$20. But that's a moving target.
I'm looking at buying some US ETFs (SHE, SPYX) to get my toes wet with investing. I'm using RBC Direct Investing. I only have 2K at the moment to play with and to me, it looks like converting this to USD in RBC is better than doing Norbert's Gambit which will cost me $20 in fees ($10 to buy, $10 to sell). But everyone is telling me to do Norbert's Gambit when exchanging funds between the US and Canada. Am I missing something?
Also, some guides say to have both a USD and a CAD trading accounts but my current TFSA DI account can have both USD and CAD funds. Should I have dedicated accounts for US and CAD trading or is just the one dual currency account ok?

Newbie question

I could find an answer anywhere so I figured I'd ask you guys
Why would I trade currencies that are not paired with the U.S. of which I live in. Say I'm trading EUGBB, Why would I trade that type of pair if I'm living in the U.S. I understand it's a liquid asset and I also understand I'm making money, but why am I flipping my chances on the euro when I don't use euros. Like I said this seems like a dumb question but shit, I know I'm not the only person thinking this.
